FALSP Loop Road Route
Intermediate Route

Description:
The Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park Loop (FALSP Loop for short) is a good route for cyclists wishing to test their climbing legs just south of Mandan. The route extends along 1806 just south of the Heart River, around the park (as the name implies), and then passes through the park along a paved trail. Depending on the direction ridden, the climbs can be gradual or moderate in difficulty. This route offers some of the best views of the Missouri River to the south. For history buffs, this is an excellent route too, as it passes by On-A-Slant Village, Custer's House and historic fort buildings. The route is appropriate for intermiediate cyclists, an can be ridden in either direction around the park.

Helpful Tips
-
A bike path is available along 1806 leading to the park from the north.
-
When riding through the park on the paved trail, be aware of walkers/runners as well as closed gates.
-
1806 has a good asphalt shoulder, but has moderate to heavy casino traffic depending on the day.
- For a challenging climb, try the ascent up to the infantry posts. You'll be rewarded with a great 180 degree view of the area.
-
Bring along an extra tube (or two). This loop is known for causing a disproportionate number of flats among all the road rides in the Bismarck/Mandan area.
